The Cover
PAI-1 reduces angiogenesis, but converts quickly into a latent form by retracting its reactive loop inside the molecule. Replacing chosen amino acids with novel cysteines creates -S-S- bridges (192-347, 197-355, 31-97, red/green/yellow structure) that extend half-life of the therapeutically desired active form from 2 up to over 700 h. For details, see Chorostowska-Wynimko et al. in this issue.
